Ultimate Mortal Kombat - Nintendo DS (2007)

Image
Status - played a few hours    What the back of the box says - “ Play two Mortal Kombat Classics Anywhere! ”   What I say - “Play one Mortal Kombat Klassic Anywhere!”   Genre - Fighting / Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo rip off   Rage quitting / stress levels - Medium/low   Price paid - AUD 15 (Ballina Pawn Shop)   Metacritic - 73 out of 100 Mortal Kombat was my everything back in the day. Wait - just the first two games.  By the time the third came out - I think I was more into 3D fighting games a la Tekken and Virtua Fighter which were on point back then. As you probably know - the game mechanics had been altered to include a ‘Run/Combo’ mechanic  this speed up the gameplay but you were rewarded for memorisation of moves rather than skill. I could never get into this as much than the first two games, which were a bit more easier to get into. I have fonder memories of UMK3 (playing it at a US arcade on holidays, bigger cast including the return of favourite Scorpion) but it is still

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand - PS3 (2009)

Status - 100% completed    What the box says - "Play as 50 Cent, the world's biggest hip-hop star, in this fast-paced action shooter!  You and the G-Unit will battle across two countries to collect your payday and exact your revenge on those who have crossed you"    What I say - Play as 50 Cent, bottle full of bub, in a shooting massacre/blood bath just so he can get a jewel encrusted skull back from Middle-Eastern paramilitary group.    Genre  - Hip-hop ‘em up Rage quitting/stress levels - Medium-low    Price Paid - $14.95 from Revolution CD (Belconnen)    Metacritic - 72 out of 100    50 Cent, the Wikipedia described "master of the nuanced art of lyrical brevity", who rhymes "Drugs" with "Hugs" and "Sex" with "X".  Me loves it. It's terrific to think that 50 Cent not only branched out into motion pictures ("Get Rich or Die Trying'") but also into video games with 2005's "50 Cent: Bulletproof&qu

Poochy & Yoshi's Wooly World - Nintendo 3DS (2017)

Image
Status - World 3-2 out of 6    What the box says - Join Yarn Yoshi (and Poochy!) on a journey through a wonderful world of wool!    What I say - 3DS port of a Wii U game (with Poochy!) which seems to be a wool-based successor to the much better classic Yoshi's Island - Super Mario Bros. 2 on the SNES.    Genre - yarn platforming collectathon.    Rage quitting / stress levels - low    Price paid - AUD 29 from Cashies    Metacritic - 77/100    I'm a bit over 1/3rd through P&YWW and it is very much "Yoshi's Island" but with a "yarn" style art style which sometimes is integrated into the gameplay. For those who aren't familiar with Yoshi's Island - it was a "late SNES cycle" platformer sequel of Super Mario Bros (SNES) with a pre-rendered "children's book" art style which fitted the plot/theme (controlling Yoshi and protecting Baby Mario through various platforming levels.  For me YI is one of the all time classic platform

Yes - I've got a problem.  The first step in a video gaming collecting problem is to admit that you have a problem.  My problem - collecting video games for a range of old and new consoles and handheld systems but just don't have the time to do the games justice by even getting around to playing with them.  Case in point - exhibit A - see above a small screen shot of some of my video games. Exhibit B - my "Gameye" app is telling me I own 1435 games across 38 gaming systems including:  - 3DO  - Atari 7800 (2600)  - Atari Jaguar  - Neo Geo MVS  - Neo Geo Pocket  - NES  - Nintendo 3DS (2DS)  - Nintendo 64  - Nintendo Gameboy / GBC / GBA  - Nintendo Gamecube  - Nintendo Switch  - Nintendo Wii  - Nintendo Wii U  - PC Engine Duo  - Sega 32X  - Sega CD  - Sega Dreamcast  - Sega Game Gear  - Sega Megadrive/Genesis (Master System) - Sega Saturn  - Sony OG Playstation  - Sony Playstation 2  - Sony Playstation 3  - Sony Playstation 4 & Pro  - Sony Playstation TV  - Sony Play
